The papers offered by the University of Waikato towards the Master of Arts (MA) have been designed to achieve the following particular outcomes involving mastery of content, acquisition of skills and development of attributes. Learning experiences are incorporated into the programme to bring about these desired outcomes, and assessment is designed to ensure that students have the opportunity to demonstrate their achievement. The generic capabilities developed by our graduates are of critical importance, as are specialist knowledge and skills. The MA is an advanced one-year programme of study in an Arts discipline, which is intended for those students who want to deepen their knowledge of that subject, and which includes a substantial component of independent research. There are subject areas within the MA and departments and individual staff members that have networks and relationships with a diverse range of business, community and other relevant sectors, the support and input of which are invaluable to the disciplines. These networks and relationships contribute to the learning of the students and to the ongoing development of the programmes. The breadth of experience, relevance and access to the community brings home to the students that what they are studying is a society of which we are part. These also ensure the students are informed by and about the wider society and world of which we are a part through research related teaching. To be admitted to the MA, you must have completed a Bachelor of Arts with Honours (or the equivalent) in the same subject and must have achieved a satisfactory grade average - normally a B+ average or better. You also need to have appropriate supervision arranged. Admission criteria may vary so please consult the relevant Graduate Adviser for their admission criteria. Admission to the MA requires the agreement of the Chairperson or Director of the major subject or programme and agreement of the Dean of Arts and Social Sciences (or nominee). Subjects offered for the MA include Anthropology, Chinese, Education Studies, English, French, Geography, German, History, International Relations & Security Studies, Japanese, Mathematics, Music, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Screen & Media Studies,Theatre Studies, Mori Media and Communication, Te Reo Mori and Tikanga Mori/Mori Cultural Studies. http://www.waikato.ac.nz/wfass/ http://www.waikato.ac.nz/smpd/ For more information please click on one of the links below. |
